Frequently Asked Questions

You are welcome just to come and have a chat with us on the beach - so a chair and a cuppa are a good idea. If you want to join in, we suggest swimsuit or wetsuit, swim shoes and a float. Wetsuit gloves make a big difference even in summer. Bring warm clothes to get into asap when you get out of the water (dryrobe or dressing gown, towelling robe or towel, socks, joggers etc). The important thing in winter is to be able to get changed quickly so loose fitting clothes are easier.

Most ladies come ready to swim but it's not a problem if you need to get changed on the beach.

Yes it is ladies only but there will be mixed swims posted. If you want a mixed swim posting but are unsure, just ask someone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most people buy their floats from the shop at Hornsea Inshore Rescue or on-line.

Hornsea Dolphins caters to ladies from 16 upwards.

That's easy. Just look for a group of women with chairs and brighly coloured floats and wetsuits or towelling robes. Just walk over and let us know you are new to the group and you'll never look back.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. We tend to bob about and chat in the water. Some people do swim but we don't set out to swim any particular distance. Sometimes there are special events which are advertised i.e. north to south beach swims.

Hornsea Dolphins are not responsible for your safety. You are responsible for your own safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Google the question. There are so many reports on this. (You never see a cold water swimmer not smiling when they get out of the water). They all stress the importance of not thinking it's better to spend a long time in the water. You have to listen to your body and not be lulled into thinking you feel great whilst your feet and hands have gone numb!!

We recommend you do your own research into HYPOTHERMIA and how to spot the signs.

Dryrobes are  a bit expensive but other makes are good and a lot cheaper. Try Go Outdoors or online or chat to other outdoor swimmers about their choice

Wetsuits - all sorts of shops sell these

Towelling robes - online or in many stores

Floats - Hornsea Inshore Rescue or online

Swim Gloves and swim shoes - online or in many shops

It's worth checking out the wave height, the tide times and the weather.
